Upgrade a compatible Ruger American Short Action rifle with the MDT ORYX Sportsman Chassis System.

The ORYX combines a rigid aluminium chassis with adjustable ergonomics and practical accessory mounting. Its aluminium bedding block supports the action, while the free-floating forend removes pressure from the barrel.

This model is configured for right-handed Ruger American Short Action rifles and uses compatible short-action AICS-pattern magazines.

Calibre Compatibility

The chassis is selected according to the rifle’s action, not only its calibre. Compatible short-action chamberings may include cartridges such as:

• .243 Winchester
• 6.5 Creedmoor
• 7mm-08 Remington
• .308 Winchester
• .22-250 Remington
• .223 Remington
• .300 AAC Blackout

The correct AICS-pattern magazine must be selected for the cartridge. Not every short-action AICS magazine feeds every calibre correctly.

Magazine System

Installing this chassis converts the compatible Ruger American rifle from its original magazine system to a short-action AICS-pattern detachable magazine system.

The original Ruger rotary or AR-pattern magazine cannot automatically be reused.

The AICS magazine is sold separately. Select a magazine that is compatible with:

• The rifle’s calibre
• Cartridge overall length
• Short-action AICS magazine well
• Required magazine capacity

Some calibres require a dedicated AICS magazine or specialised internal geometry.

Construction and Ergonomics

The action is supported by a rigid aluminium V-block. This creates a stable interface between the receiver and chassis without conventional bedding compound.

The forend allows the barrel to free float, provided the barrel contour remains within the stated clearance. This helps reduce unwanted pressure against the barrel.

The adjustable cheek riser helps position the eye behind the scope. Length-of-pull adjustment allows the stock to be adapted to the shooter’s body size, clothing and shooting position.

The included vertical-style grip provides a comfortable trigger-hand position for prone, bench and supported shooting.

Accessory Mounting

M-LOK slots beneath the forend allow compatible accessories to be fitted, including:

• Tripod adapters
• Accessory rails
• Barricade accessories

Compatible aftermarket ARCA rails can also be installed. An ARCA rail is not included unless specifically stated in the package description.

Installation

This chassis is designed as a replacement for the factory stock. Installation normally involves transferring the barreled action and trigger assembly into the ORYX chassis.

Always:

• Confirm that the firearm is unloaded
• Remove all ammunition from the work area
• Follow MDT’s model-specific instructions
• Use the correct action screws and hardware
• Apply the manufacturer’s recommended torque settings
• Confirm that the barrel is fully free floating
• Check trigger, safety, bolt and magazine operation
• Verify reliable feeding before live use

Do not overtighten the action screws. Incorrect torque can damage components or affect accuracy.

Professional installation by a competent gunsmith is recommended if the owner is unfamiliar with firearm assembly or function testing.
