Upgrade a compatible Remington 700 Short Action rifle with the MDT ORYX Sportsman Chassis System.

The ORYX uses a rigid aluminium backbone to provide a stable mounting platform for the rifle action. Its V-block bedding system supports the receiver, while the free-floating forend prevents unwanted stock pressure against the barrel.

This black model is designed for right-handed Remington 700 Short Action rifles and uses compatible short-action AICS-pattern detachable magazines.

Calibre Compatibility

The chassis is selected according to the rifle’s action length, not calibre alone.

Common short-action chamberings may include:

• .223 Remington
• .22-250 Remington
• .243 Winchester
• 6mm Creedmoor
• 6.5 Creedmoor
• 7mm-08 Remington
• .308 Winchester
• .260 Remington

The correct short-action AICS magazine must be selected for the cartridge.

A standard .308/6.5 Creedmoor AICS magazine is not suitable for every cartridge. Calibres such as .223 Remington, .22-250 Remington, 6BR, 6GT and WSM-family cartridges may require dedicated magazine bodies, followers, spacers or feed-lip geometry.

The chassis does not change the rifle’s chambering, bolt face or safe ammunition requirements.

Magazine System

This ORYX chassis converts a compatible Remington 700 Short Action rifle to a detachable short-action AICS-pattern magazine system.

The following are not included or automatically compatible:

• Original Remington BDL hinged floorplate
• Factory internal magazine box
• Proprietary detachable magazines
• Long-action AICS magazines
• AICS magazines for the wrong cartridge family

The AICS magazine is sold separately.

When selecting a magazine, confirm:

• Calibre
• Cartridge overall length
• Feed-lip configuration
• Magazine capacity
• Metal or polymer construction
• Compatibility with the chosen bullet profile

Construction and Ergonomics

The aluminium V-block creates a rigid and repeatable interface between the action and chassis. Conventional glass bedding is normally not required for a standard installation.

The forend allows the barrel to free float when the barrel contour remains within the stated clearance. This helps reduce changes in point of impact caused by stock pressure.

The adjustable cheek riser helps position the shooter’s eye correctly behind the scope. Length-of-pull adjustment allows the stock to be configured for different shooting positions and body sizes.

The included MDT Elite pistol grip provides a more vertical trigger-hand position for prone, bench and supported shooting.

Accessory Mounting

M-LOK slots beneath the forend allow compatible accessories to be installed, including:

• Bipods
• Sling mounts
• Picatinny rail sections
• Tripod adapters
• Barricade accessories
• M-LOK weights and balance accessories

Compatible ORYX ARCA rails can also be installed. An ARCA rail is not included unless specifically stated.

Installation

Installation normally involves transferring the Remington 700 barreled action and trigger from the factory stock into the ORYX chassis.

Always:

• Confirm that the rifle is completely unloaded
• Remove all ammunition from the work area
• Follow MDT’s model-specific instructions
• Use the supplied installation hardware
• Apply the manufacturer’s recommended action-screw torque
• Confirm that the barrel is fully free floating
• Check trigger and safety operation
• Verify bolt movement and cocking
• Check magazine retention and release
• Confirm feeding, extraction and ejection before live use

Do not overtighten the action screws. Incorrect torque can damage components or affect accuracy.

Professional installation by a competent gunsmith is recommended when fitting a clone action or if the owner is unfamiliar with firearm assembly.
