Upgrade your Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard short-action rifle with the MDT ORYX Sportsman Chassis. This right-handed chassis combines a rigid aluminium core with durable polymer exterior panels.

The V-shaped bedding area supports the action firmly and helps maintain consistent positioning. Its free-floating forend prevents unwanted contact with the barrel. An adjustable cheek riser and length of pull help the shooter achieve a comfortable, repeatable shooting position.

Supported Howa 1500 short-action variants can include Hogue, Gamepro, H-S Precision, Hera, TSP-X and selected carbon-stock models. Supported Weatherby Vanguard short-action variants can include Synthetic, Sporter, Camilla, Badlands and other models using the standard Vanguard short-action receiver.

Compatibility is determined by the rifle’s action and receiver dimensions, not only its calibre or model name. Confirm that your rifle uses a standard right-handed Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard short action before ordering.

Other chamberings may work when they use the correct Howa or Vanguard short-action receiver. The correct polymer AICS-pattern magazine must also be selected for the cartridge.

Important Magazine Requirement

The Howa 1500 and Weatherby Vanguard version of the ORYX chassis is designed for polymer short-action AICS-pattern magazines.

Magazine is sold separately.
Original Howa detachable magazines will not fit the ORYX magazine well.
Metal AICS magazines are not recommended unless MDT specifically confirms compatibility.
Magazine capacity depends on the chosen magazine and local regulations.

Construction and Ergonomics

The aluminium core creates a rigid mounting platform for the receiver. Its V-block bedding design helps position the action consistently without requiring traditional glass bedding.

The adjustable cheek riser supports correct eye alignment with a mounted optic. Spacers allow the length of pull to be adjusted to suit the shooter, clothing or shooting position.

Polymer side panels provide a warmer and more comfortable gripping surface than exposed aluminium. The included vertical-style MDT Elite grip is suited to supported and precision shooting positions.

Installation

The original rifle action and barrel are transferred from the factory stock into the ORYX chassis. The chassis includes model-specific action screws and installation hardware.

Installation should be completed using the correct tools and the manufacturer’s recommended screw-tightening procedure. If you are uncertain about fitment or installation, consult a qualified gunsmith.

Always confirm that the rifle is unloaded and remove all ammunition before beginning installation.
