Upgrade your Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard long-action rifle with the MDT ORYX Sportsman Chassis.

This right-handed chassis combines a rigid 6061 aluminium core with durable polymer exterior panels. Its V-block bedding system supports the action securely, while the free-floating forend prevents unwanted contact with the barrel.

An adjustable cheek riser and length-of-pull system help the shooter achieve a comfortable and repeatable shooting position. The chassis also converts compatible rifles to use detachable 3.715-inch long-action AICS-pattern magazines.

Rifle Compatibility

This chassis is designed for right-handed, long-action versions of the:

• Howa 1500 Carbon Stalker
• Howa 1500 Hogue rifle
• Howa 1500 Gamepro 2.0
• Howa 1500 Traditional Walnut
• Weatherby Vanguard long-action variants

Compatibility depends on the receiver and action length. Confirm that the rifle uses a standard Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard long action before ordering.

The rifle’s current stock type does not determine compatibility. The receiver inlet, action length and bolt orientation must match.

Calibre Information

Typical Howa 1500 and Weatherby Vanguard long-action chamberings can include:

• .25-06 Remington
• .270 Winchester
• .30-06 Springfield
• 7mm Remington Magnum
• .300 Winchester Magnum

Other long-action chamberings may fit when they use the correct Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard receiver.

Calibre alone does not confirm chassis compatibility. The correct magazine must also match the cartridge case, overall cartridge length and feed geometry.

Important Magazine Requirement

This chassis uses 3.715-inch long-action AICS-pattern magazines.

• Magazine is sold separately.
• The original Howa or Weatherby internal magazine components are not reused.
• Factory detachable Howa magazines are not compatible with the ORYX magazine well.
• Select the magazine according to the cartridge family.
• Standard and belted-magnum cartridges may require different magazines.
• Magazine capacity depends on the selected model and local regulations.

This product is not the 3.850-inch CIP-length ORYX chassis. A 3.850-inch CIP magazine should not be ordered for this chassis unless compatibility has been confirmed by MDT.

This chassis is not intended for:

• Howa Mini Action rifles
• Howa 1500 short-action rifles
• Weatherby Vanguard short-action rifles
• Left-handed actions
• 3.850-inch CIP-length magazines
• Factory Howa detachable magazines
• Remington, Savage, Tikka or Ruger actions

Do not order this chassis for a rifle based only on calibre. Several cartridges are available in more than one receiver configuration.

Construction and Bedding

The ORYX chassis uses a solid aluminium core to create a rigid mounting platform for the receiver.

Its V-block bedding system positions the action consistently without requiring traditional glass bedding in most installations. The forend provides clearance around the barrel to maintain a free-floating barrel arrangement.

The polymer exterior panels provide a comfortable gripping surface and help protect the aluminium structure.

Adjustable Buttstock

The integrated buttstock includes:

• Adjustable cheek riser
• Length-of-pull spacer system
• Textured recoil pad
• Straight-line design for supported shooting
• Stable rear surface for use with a shooting bag

The cheek riser can be adjusted to improve eye alignment with a mounted riflescope. Length-of-pull spacers allow the stock to be adapted to the shooter’s size, clothing and shooting position.

Grip Compatibility

An MDT Elite pistol grip is included.

The chassis accepts compatible AR-15 standard and vertical-style pistol grips. Some grips with large beavertails or unusual profiles may require fitment confirmation.

Accessory Mounting

M-LOK slots beneath the forend allow compatible accessories to be installed, including:

• Bipod rails and adapters
• Sling mounting points
• Barricade stops
• Tripod adapters
• Utility rails
• Selected ARCA rail systems

The integrated barricade stop provides a firm contact point when shooting from supported positions.

Accessories are sold separately.

Installation

The Howa or Weatherby barreled action is removed from the original stock and installed in the ORYX chassis.

Before installation:

1. Unload the rifle completely.
2. Remove the magazine or internal ammunition.
3. Open the bolt.
4. Confirm visually and physically that the chamber is empty.
5. Follow the MDT installation and torque instructions.

The chassis includes the required model-specific action screws. Do not reuse screws that are damaged, incorrectly sized or too long.

After installation, confirm that:

• The action is seated correctly
• The action screws are tightened evenly
• The barrel remains free-floating
• The bolt operates without interference
• The safety operates correctly
• The selected magazine locks and feeds correctly

A qualified gunsmith should complete the installation if fitment, feeding or safety cannot be confirmed.
